We are.
Grüezi mitenand! / Bonjour à tous! / Buongiorno a tutti! / Bun di a tuts!
We are Ines and Sascha from Switzerland, the authors of the Custours blog. Since our time in Singapore, where we lived and worked over 15 years ago, we love to travel – first mostly through Southeast Asia, later during a year backpacking through Central and South America!
“Our privilege was that one day we had to request a new passport, not because this one had expired, but because there was no free page available for entry into countries that use full-page visa stickers!“
In the meantime we live as a family in Dubai. We have an almost 6 year old daughter and a 3 year old Havanese bitch!
We are glad that you found us and of course hope that our articles will be of use to you on your next trip to Dubai.
We are often asked….
…why Dubai? Switzerland is one of the best countries in the world, isn’t it?
That’s right. However, we wanted to experience something new again. Our daughter was about to start school – the best time to take this step and learn English at the same time. We have been to Dubai several times before our move and always appreciated the hospitality of this state. The people here are very accommodating. The weather is always nice. When we leave the house tomorrow, the sun is shining and when we come home in the evening, it is shining as well. The climate gives us a large portion of energy. Central Europe is only 6 hours away by plane. When we feel homesick, we can return to Switzerland for a few days and hug our loved ones.
…no fear of not being able to find a job if you return to Switzerland?
Already after Singapore and later, when we traveled as 35/40 year olds during one year through Central and South America, we realized that foreign countries educate. We got a new view of what real problems are. We learned to deal with shortcomings. Not everything works perfectly here – but it works in the end. This wealth of experience helps every venture. Accordingly, we are not afraid of being long-term unemployed.
…how is life in Dubai in general?
As with all topics, there are aspects that are annoying, on the other hand, there are conveniences that we would not like to do without. Road traffic is like a horror movie. There are simply too many cars resp. the public transport network is not well developed when leaving the tourist regions. The daily routine is therefore also defined to a certain extent according to the volume of traffic. The climate is super great during nine months – this remaining three months are hot, but there are countless indoor attractions which can be visited then. Dubai has a great culinary scene with many delicious restaurants. Dubai is a vacation destination with white sandy beaches. There is an offer here called “Staycation” – that is, a mix between “Stay” and “Vacation”. As a local, you regularly get offers from vacation hotels for extended weekends! What America was in the 80’s, Dubai is today: the emirate of unlimited possibilities.
…do you have too much free time or what is your motivation to blog based on?
We want to offer something to arriving tourists. It takes more than just a vacation catalog with beautiful photos. At the same time we are building up our company CusTours – derived from “customized Tours”. We will have experienced the whole universe of attractions & tours here in Dubai ourselves and then use algorithms to generate personalized itineraries tailored to the individual visitor. So, we can use our research and know-how that we share here for our future customers as well. Stay tuned – www.custours.com will go live in January 2024 at the latest. You can already follow us on Instagram and Facebook. We share many interesting stories and reels about this vibrant metropolis on a daily basis.
We welcome your feedback, comments, etc.
Happy Reading!
Cordial,
Ines + Sascha
